In a heartbreaking tale out of Port Charlotte, Florida, the body of a four-year-old child who went missing from her family’s vacation home on Friday night, was found in the waters of a canal not far from where she was first reported missing. On June 2, Florida law enforcement officials in Charlotte County received a desperate call about four-year-old Evelyn Geer who managed to get out of her vacation home and then wandered off. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) issued an alert stating:
4-year-old Evelyn K. Geer (2-25-2019) has been missing for several hours. She wandered off from the Vacation Rental (VRBO) home her family has been staying at on Barksdale St. in Port Charlotte (near Cochran and Collingswood). She was wearing a diaper at the time.
We currently have Aviation and our bloodhound out looking for Evelyn.
Please keep your eye out for her while driving around town and call in anything you may see or any information you may have to CCSO at 941-639-2101.
Let’s bring little Evelyn home.
CNN reported that the search for Evelyn got underway as soon as her mom found the front door to the vacation home was left open and that her child was gone. The search for Evelyn officially began with her mom making a desperate call to 911.
“She’s screaming, advising her 4-year-old daughter is missing. She found her front door wide open,” the dispatcher says in the 911 call audio released by the sheriff’s office and obtained by CNN affiliate WINK. “This can’t be happening,” the mother can be heard saying on the call. ~ CNN
Tragically, the following morning, deputies released word that the little girl’s body had been found in that canal by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission personnel (FWC) who had been searching for her by boat.
We are heartbroken to confirm that the body of 4-year-old Evelyn K. Geer (2-25-2019) has been discovered along the water edge down the canal behind the VRBO the family was staying in.
Please keep the family in your prayers as they go through this unbearable time. ~ CCSO
Evelyn’s grandma started a GoFundMe page to raise money to cover her granddaughter’s funeral expenses. For more on the story, see the video accompanying this article.
