Bogus tow truck driver busted towing and stealing vehicles in Tulsa
Yesterday, police in Tulsa, Oklahoma, reported on a brazen criminal who had a unique method of stealing cars by representing himself as a legitimate tow truck driver.
On October 31 around 8:30 p.m., Tulsa Police Officers responded to a home near 2100 N. Rockford for a call referencing a stolen vehicle. The victim said the suspect, later identified as Demarco Brown, towed his Chevy truck from a private lot near Charles Page Boulevard and 61st W. Avenue. The victim said Brown was driving a pink tow truck and that he also towed another truck from the same lot.
The victim said after his truck was towed, he called all the local tow yards but was unable to locate his truck. The victim left his phone in his truck and was able to track its location to 2100 N. Rockford Avenue.
Officers caught up with Brown who ultimately admitted to towing both trucks off the property. Brown also admitted that he did not have a license or paperwork to legally tow a vehicle in Tulsa County. Brown said he dropped the other truck off at another location because he believed it was stolen.
After serving a search warrant on the residence, Officers recovered numerous falsely notarized bills of sale, blank dealer tags, and scrap metal dealer receipts for automobiles.
Police arrested the creative albeit bogus tow truck driver and charged him with the following:
- Larceny of Automobile x 2
- Operating a Motor Vehicle without Required Driver’s License
- Disposing of Stolen Vehicle
- Operating a Wrecker Service without a License
