Boyfriend intentionally runs girlfriend and two young children over with car at Florida gas station
Yesterday, Florida’s Volusia Sheriff’s Office reported on a family outing that went horribly wrong and ended up with two children and their mom being badly hurt when they were deliberately struck by the family’s car. Making matters worse, the car was being driven by the mother’s boyfriend near a DeLand, Florida, gas station. The potentially deadly assault by auto went down on Thursday afternoon, March 3.
The boyfriend, who was behind the wheel at the time of the assault, was identified as 29-year-old Nicholas Shaw – who was arrested at the scene.
The family was returning to their Stuart home when they stopped at the BP gas station located at 2801 E. New York Ave., next to the Budget Inn. The children’s 30-year-old mother told Volusia sheriff’s deputies she and Shaw had been arguing while traveling and the argument continued when they stopped.
As the mother was holding her three-year-old daughter and her 10-year-old daughter stood next to her, the mom was trying to retrieve her infant son from their gold Concord LX.
Shaw yelled at the woman, “You’re not going to take my son.”
Shaw could see that the three were in the path of the car. He shifted the vehicle in reverse and accelerated, striking all three victims with the back passenger door, knocking them to the ground.
After purposely knocking them over, he continued to accelerate the car, running the younger girl over with a tire. He continued to drive with the infant in the car and left the scene but returned shortly afterwards.
The girls each sustained scrapes and possible spinal injuries and were transported by EVAC ambulance to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, along with the mom and baby. Although badly hurt, the injuries are considered to be non-life threatening.

Following his arrest, Shaw was charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, neglect of a child and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
He is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bail allowed, pending a court appearance.
