Brooklyn machete attack: Man kills grandfather, also slashes 4-year-old sister and brother-in-law
According to police in New York City, a 22-year-old man from Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood killed his 79-year-old grandfather and slashed his four-year-old sister and 49-year-old brother-in-law with a machete. The vicious and fatal attack went down inside a Brooklyn apartment building located on Putnam Avenue near Nostrand Avenue around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday.
The attack was believed to be related to a domestic dispute. Dayquan Dubose, 22, first slashed the little girl’s right leg, according to law enforcement sources.
Dubose then fatally stabbed his 79-year-old grandfather in the stomach, before slashing his 49-year-old brother-in-law to the right hand, sources said. ~ The New York Post
A witness on the scene managed to help detain Dubose until the NYPD arrived and took him into custody.
There’s no explanation yet as to what provoked the melee. Thanks to news reports, we do know that Dubose began slashing out at his family inside their first-floor apartment located at 300 Putnam Avenue on Sunday evening.
Dubose killed his grandfather by stabbing him in the stomach with that machete – after slashing his toddler sister in her hip. When Dubose’s brother-in-law tried to intervene, the unhinged Dubose slashed him in his hand, according to The New York Daily News. Medical first responders rushed the grandfather to the Interfaith Hospital; but the 79-year-old died from his injuries.
One neighbor, who didn’t give her name, described the surviving male relative as an uncle.
“He’s a good kid. He must have snapped or maybe he got high or something,” she said of the young assailant.
The little girl and brother-in-law are reportedly hospitalized and in stable condition. WPIX reported that the NYPD should be charging Dubose early today.
