Just now, Florida’s St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) reported that shortly after 8 a.m. on the morning of August 30, SLCSO patrol deputies responded to the 4100 block of South Indian River Drive in Fort Pierce in reference to a burglary. While on the scene, they learned that the homeowner called 9-1-1 after discovering an adult male sleeping next to a pile of tools inside his garage. Awakened by the homeowner, the male fled, leaving the alleged loot behind.

At the same time, Criminal Investigations Division detectives were nearby following up on a separate burglary where the suspect had entered a residence and then helped him or herself to some ice cream, tools, clothing, and jewelry – all while the homeowner slept. Thinking these two cases might be related, the detectives canvased the area and noticed a suspicious person removing tools from an unlocked trailer a few houses away. As the detectives approached to speak with him, he fled on foot.

After a brief foot chase, the detectives apprehended 42-year-old Timothy Wayne Castellano and recovered numerous items from his possession.

“This is a stark reminder to keep your doors locked any time, day or night. Time was not a factor for this brazen thief, who dressed like a construction worker and committed his felonious acts during all hours of the day. If you see something or someone who appears out of place, call 9-1-1,” said Sheriff Ken Mascara.

If you have any information on thefts or burglaries in the area, please call our Criminal Investigations Division at 772-462-3230 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477 (1-800-273-TIPS).
