(Updated 4/8/2024) On April 2, police in Maryland reported arresting a man back in February, who has now been charged with the kidnapping and murder of his ex-girlfriend earlier this year in Dorchester County. Although the police have their suspect in custody, the remains of the murdered woman have not yet been recovered.
The suspect, Kenneth Stefan Bradley, 40, of Cambridge, Maryland, was indicted on March 29 on charges that included:
- first-degree murder,
- second-degree murder,
- first-degree assault,
- second-degree assault,
- kidnapping,
- false imprisonment, and,
- reckless endangerment.
Bradley is being held without bail at the Dorchester County Detention Center.
According to an earlier preliminary investigation conducted by the Maryland State Police, the victim, Tiyavauna Britt, 31, was last seen at her place of employment on February 7 in Delaware – and her vehicle was located in the parking lot of a Dollar Tree in the Easton area. Britt’s phone and wallet were found in her car. Her body has not yet been recovered.
According to WBOC, police have surveillance video showing a man and woman believed to be Bradley and Britt. In the court’s charging documents, the man is seen getting out of a car with a woman who is seen on the video with her hands bound. And although the two leave the visible frame of the camera, the audio portion of the surveillance video record “loud thuds.”
Officers say the vehicle then left the scene, leaving an unknown object on the ground, and returning nearly half an hour later. At about 8:30 p.m. on February 7th, police say camera footage shows the male figure dragging what appears to be a small statured woman to the vehicle. The man first places the limp body in the front seat and then the cargo hatch at the back of the vehicle before leaving the area, arrest documents say.
News Nation reported Britt’s mother as saying that her daughter and Bradley had a history of domestic violence and at the time of his recent arrest, he was already on probation for an earlier assault conviction involving Britt.
Authorities say Britt was last seen Feb. 7. One acquaintance said he received a phone call from Britt around 7:30 p.m. and heard a male voice who he believed started to assault Britt before the call ended.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from Easton Police and Cambridge Police. Bradley is scheduled to appear for his preliminary hearing on March 12.
Anyone having knowledge of Britt’s whereabouts is asked to contact Sergeant Scott Sears at 443-783-7230.
