Carl Crawford: Former MLB All-Star MVP charged with felony domestic violence
Retired MLB outfielder, Carl “The Perfect Storm” Crawford, was arrested on June 4 in Houston, Texas, amid domestic violence accusations regarding an alleged incident that went down with a former girlfriend, according to Boston.com. Crawford was released from jail after paying a $50,000 bond.
According to police records shared by Boston.com, “the ballplayer-turned-record producer went to the home of Gabriele Washington on May 8, produced a handgun from which he unloaded the ammunition in her presence, then demanded information on her latest dating relationship. Washington told investigators Crawford pushed her to the floor, slammed her head against a wall and choked her.”
Sports Illustrated reports that Crawford has been charged with felony domestic violence. The 38-year-old former ballplayer spent his MLB career playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox – and last played in the bigs over the 2016 season, according to MSN.
Washington and Crawford had parted ways before he went to her home on May 8 but agreed to meet with him just to talk things out. As soon as Crawford entered her home, things took an immediate turn for the worst after he produced that gun. Washington claimed that he “unloaded the clip and ejected a round of the pistol and began walking towards her holding the firearm,” according to TMZ.
Washington told police that she tried to get away but Crawford pushed her to the ground.
Crawford grilled her about a new male acquaintance and while holding a gun in one hand, held her by the throat with his other.
When she says she replied that she only knew the other man for a week, she claims Crawford accused her of lying and slammed her head against the wall several times.
While still holding the gun, Crawford allegedly began to squeeze the woman’s neck while asking, “how long had she been having sex with the male.”
Fortunately, Washington’s one-year-old daughter entered the room which distracted Crawford, allowing Washington the opportunity to flee the scene with her daughter. Crawford also fled, leaving his gun behind.
The domestic violence report involving Crawford occurred less than two weeks after a 25-year-old woman and a five-year-old boy drowned and died in Crawford’s home swimming pool.
Crawford, 38, was hosting a gathering of six people Saturday afternoon [May 18] in north Houston when the boy wandered away and fell in the pool, sources told TMZ.
The child started having trouble breathing and the 25-year-old woman jumped in to try and save him [but she also drowned,] according to the Houston Chronicle.
Last night, TMZ reported that an attorney representing Crawford said that his client is innocent, adding … “We strongly deny the charges and the conduct he is alleged to have engaged in. He would never hurt a woman. He has no criminal history.”
