(March 25, 2025) Tragic and heartbreaking news coming out of South Florida after we’re learning that a five-year-child who was left alone in a hotel room got into his mother’s drug stash and died after ingesting a fatal amount of methamphetamine.  According to the Riviera Beach Police Department, on Sunday, March 23 at approximately 5:30 p.m., police officers responded to a report of a child not breathing at the Sands Hotel and Resort located at 2401 Beach Court on Singer Island.

Upon their arrival, officers found a five-year-old child receiving medical attention from the paramedics. The child was subsequently transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in critical condition. According to CBS-12 News, that child was a boy.

Further investigation revealed that the child’s mother had left the child alone in the hotel room, where the little boy was able to access and swallow a dose of methamphetamine. Tragically the child died shortly after ingesting the substance.

The child’s mother, 37-year-old Heather F. Opsincs, has been arrested and is facing charges of aggravated manslaughter in connection with her child’s death. She was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail, where she is currently being held,
