Yesterday, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office reported on a collaborative multi-agency effort that resulted in the apprehension of a fugitive that was on the run trying to escape his crimes against children.
On December 21, the United States Marshals Service was contacted by the Avoyelles Parish County Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana regarding an arrest warrant for Travis Ryan. Ryan was wanted for one count of sexual battery on a person under 13 and seven counts of indecent behavior with juveniles under 13.
Ryan’s arrest warrant was signed back in December 2020. The wanted fugitive was aware of the warrant and was actively fleeing prosecution.
On the evening of December 22, at the request of the Louisiana Task Force, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit, working with the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force began a local investigation into Ryan’s location.
Their investigation succeeded in identifying Ryan’s place of employment in Okeechobee County, Florida. Task Force Members arrived on scene and learned he was scheduled to arrive for work in approximately 30 minutes. Task Force members devised a plan to take Ryan into custody safely due to the crowded location.
Ryan arrived at work and was quickly taken into custody without incident.
Travis Ryan was arrested and transported to the Okeechobee County Jail where he will await extradition back to Louisiana.
