Chris Brown freed from French prison, not charged with rape, plans to sue accuser
Until late yesterday, singer Chris Brown was being detained in northwest Paris, France, on a rape complaint. He and two other individuals were placed in French custody after a woman filed a rape complaint against the three, according to a January 22 report from CBS News. One of the other two individuals detained was Brown’s bodyguard.
The official charge that could have been levied against the three suspects was aggravated rape.
It’s unfortunate that due to his domestic violence background, many were ready to believe that the allegations made against the singer were true. Instead, Brown is out of jail; and it doesn’t appear that that any rape complaints will be charged against him.
The Vibe shared a statement from Brown’s Parisian lawyer, Raphael Chiche:
… Raphael Chiche, says his client adamantly denies the allegations and plans to challenge them in court. “Chris Brown is free. No lawsuits were filed against him,” Chiche said in a statement. “He vigorously challenges the charges against him. A complaint for slanderous denunciation will be filed tomorrow with the public prosecutor of Paris.”
USA Today shared an Instagram post from the singer, which has since been taken down from that social media platform:
“I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR…… THIS IS FALSE AND A WHOLE LOT OF CAP! NNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!! FOR MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO DISPRESPECTFUL AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!!” read his Instagram post.
Brown is free to leave France whenever he wants. A Parisian police investigation into his accuser’s alleged assault is still ongoing.
