Christian middle school teacher arrested on sex charges involving 14-year-old male student

On November 23, Detectives with Florida’s Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit announced the arrest of a schoolteacher accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual acts with a minor.  According to detectives, 35-year-old Candace Brown, while actively employed as a teacher at Sawgrass Adventist School, a private Christian school in Plantation, engaged in lewd and lascivious acts with a 14-year-old male student. The middle school enrolls students from kindergarten through grade eight.  

Brown has been teaching at Sawgrass since 2016.  The minor victim told detectives that their sexual activity together took place in Deerfield Beach this summer. 

According to the arrest report, the incidents were between June 1 and June 30, and they included sexual contact, transmitting to the victim video of herself performing a sexual act on herself and kissing, according to CBS News. 

Brown turned herself in to the Broward County Main Jail on Friday, November 22, on two counts of lewd and lascivious battery, victim less than 16 years old – and one count each of lewd and lascivious conduct and transmission of material harmful to a minor by electronic device. 

Detectives believe there may be additional victims. She maintains a residence in the 1500 block of Veracruz Lane in Weston.
