College student Haley Anderson murdered in Binghamton, suspect sought
Family and friends of a beloved 22-year-old Binghamton University nursing student are devastated after authorities in upstate New York found Haley Anderson of Westbury, Long Island, dead in her off-campus residence on March 9. Although police are not releasing specifics, Anderson’s death has been ruled a homicide. A male nursing student who had previously been in a romantic relationship with Anderson and who left the country before she was found dead, is considered to be a person of interest, according to CBS News.
Police in Binghamton discovered Anderson’s remains on Friday just before 1 p.m. after a welfare check was requested.
Anderson was a graduating senior at Binghamton. Immediately after she was found dead, the University released the following statement:

The Binghamton University community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of senior nursing student Haley Anderson, whose death is being investigated by the Binghamton Police Department. There is no threat to public safety at this time. The investigation is continuing at this hour. Anyone with information can contact the Binghamton Police Detective Division at 607-772-7080 or 607-772-7082.
Our entire University community extends our deepest condolences to Haley’s family and friends, both here in Binghamton and in her hometown of Westbury, N.Y.
During this challenging time, we are offering counseling services for those who wish assistance. They, along with the University Counseling Center (UCC) and Residential Life, are providing ongoing support to students as needed.

To reach someone after hours or for emergencies, students should call 911 or the UCC after-hours counselor by phone by calling 607-777-2772 and selecting #2. Students can also call 607-762-2302 for the 24-hour Crisis Center at Binghamton General Hospital.
The Employee Assistance Program is available to provide support to faculty and staff who knew Haley, and can be reached at 607-777-6655 or 607-777-6650 during regular office hours, or an off-campus coordinator can be reached after hours by calling the 24-hour EAP call line at 1-800-822-0244.
Anderson was scheduled to graduate from Binghamton at the end of this semester in May.
A GoFundMe funeral fund has been established in Anderson’s name. An excerpt from that page reads:
… we lost one of the most amazing people many of us have had the pleasure of knowing. Anyone who knew Haley Anderson knew how her energy lit up every room she walked into, whether it was our lives as her friends or the lives of her patients when she volunteered as a nursing student. Haley’s laughter was infectious and her child-like spirit touched all the people around her.
