On May 30, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office issued a release stating that a Colorado man was arrested yesterday after a Harford County Child Advocacy Center investigation developed evidence supporting charges of sexual solicitation of a minor. The suspect was identified as Scott Dye, 40, of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dye has been charged with one count of sexual solicitation of a minor.  Investigators became involved after Dye made contact with an undercover law enforcement agent whom he believed to be a juvenile, and arranged to have sexual contact with her.

In his communications with the undercover agent, Dye tried passing himself off as a 23-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware.

Dye arranged to meet who he thought was the young girl in a Bel Air, Maryland, parking lot on Pennsylvania Avenue where he was arrested without incident by investigators from the Harford County Child Advocacy Center.  Those investigators were assisted by a deputy with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, and a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

… Dye allegedly told detectives he has a “sexual interest” in children ages 14 to 20, according to charging documents. He said he had come to Maryland from Colorado to have sex with a 10-year-old girl in Rising Sun, and when those plans fell through after he arrived, he began another conversation. ~ The Baltimore Sun

Dye is currently being held at the Harford County Detention Center on no bond. Investigators also recovered suspected illegal drugs and items of personal electronics from Dye’s person and vehicle upon his arrest. The criminal investigation is ongoing.

The Harford County Child Advocacy Center is the recognized community expert for Harford County, Maryland, in the areas of child abuse, exploitation, and maltreatment.
