Comedian Pauly Shore being sued for ‘violent assault’
On January 26, news broke that comedian, actor, and owner of Los Angeles’ iconic The Comedy Store, Pauly Shore, was sued by a father and daughter who claim that Shore encouraged his security guards to attack the father in 2022, while the man’s daughter was present. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ”violent assault” alleged in the lawsuit took place on November 30, 2022, when members of Shore’s in-house security staff “violently grabbed and attacked” plaintiff Sean Kehoe at The Comedy Store while his daughter, Kirra Lyn Potts, was present.
The lawsuit alleges that Shore encouraged the security members to attack him and that Shore and The Comedy Store are responsible for the security officials’ actions due to negligence in his “selection of hiring.” Kehoe and Potts are seeking monetary compensation for previous and future medical bills, along with a to-be-determined sum for loss of earnings. The full suit includes complaints against Shore and The Comedy Store for battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, premises liability, and negligent hiring, training supervision, and/or retention of unfit employees, according to The Blast.
As of this writing, Shore has yet to release a public statement regarding the lawsuit filed against him in Los Angeles County’s West District on Thursday.
Shore has also been in the headlines this past week regarding a film in which Shore will be portraying the eccentric weight-loss guru turned recluse, Richard Simmons. The excitement came when Simmons posted to his Facebook page saying that no-one consulted him about Shore playing him, and that he did not approve of Pauly Shore as the casting choice.
“You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read … I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support.” ~ Richard Simmons, Facebook
