Cops hunting suspect who gave a couple cocaine and then beat them, killing one
Yesterday, the Detroit Police Department alerted the public that they are searching for a murder suspect who went on the run February 13. Police said that around 6 p.m. on February 13, their suspect, Antoine Jamal Powers-McClain, allegedly gave a male and female victim crack cocaine after they shoveled his snow. He then asked the couple to join him in the basement of his home, located in the 9100 block of Stout Street on Detroit’s west side.
“What we know right now is that it was a ruse,” said Detroit Police Chief James White. “It was just to get them into the home and get them in a position to do what he did.”
After entering Powers-McClain’s home, the female told police that they were threatened with a rifle. She also said that Powers-McClain beat the male victim, hitting him in the head with the rifle, killing him. Detroit Police later reported that Powers-McClain beat the man to death “with the butt of a long gun, stripped him naked, and then shoved him into a dog cage where he chained him.”
The female victim said that Powers-McClain’s beat her too, and threatened to kill her if she told anyone what happened.
Surveillance cameras on homes in the neighborhood captured the two going in but never coming out. Neighbors who didn’t want to be identified had no idea what had happened until police arrived in the neighborhood on Monday (Feb. 14). “Things like this is kind of shocking,” said a neighbor. ~ Click On Detroit
After beating the female with that same rifle and threatening to kill her if she spoke to police, Powers-McClain drove her to an apartment building in the 9600 block of Greenfield, where she was able to escape and get help. Police say that Powers-McClain is “armed and dangerous.”
Police provided his physical description as: Height, 5’, 9”; Weight, 170 pounds, with average build and shoulder-length black hair. If you have information on Powers-McClain’s whereabouts, contact DPD’s homicide unit at 313-596-2250 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up. Tipsters will remain anonymous.
