Country star Carrie Underwood has been flexing her vocal chords lately and branching out into the hard rock genre. Although she’s still legit country, the “Jesus, Take the Wheel” singer recently surprised her fans by getting together on stage, not once but twice, with Axl Rose at a few recent Guns ‘N Roses concerts and belting out “Sweet Child ‘O Mine” and “Paradise City.”
The 2005 “American Idol” winner has never been shy about professing her love for rock and is in the rock n’ roll headlines again after covering one of her “all-time favorite songs” from the legendary British heavy metal rocker and Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne.
Underwood performed her rendition of the classic Osbourne power ballad “Mama, I’m Coming Home” for her new Apple Music Sessions EP, which was recorded exclusively for the streaming service. Admittedly, Ozzy’s “Mama, I’m Coming Home” is a lot softer than his “Crazy Train.”
“I have always been an Ozzy Osbourne fan and ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’ is one of my all-time favorite songs,” according to Country Now.
“I’ve always thought it felt a lot like a country song, and I’ve wanted to cover it for a long time. This was a really fun opportunity for me to be able to finally make that happen. I hope we’ve done Ozzy proud and I hope he likes it.”
This spring, Underwood said she’s excited about going back on the road with her “DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR.” She was quoted in People as saying, “I’m having such an amazing time with my Las Vegas residency and look forward to continuing that next year after the tour.”
Regarding the 73-year-old Osbourne, fans were concerned when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease several years ago, followed by his more recent bouts of COVID-19 and pneumonia, and now, a life-altering surgical procedure recently scheduled to have, “the pins in his neck and back realigned from when he had a fall back in 2019.”
“… cause Mama, I’m coming home.”
