Crestview man arrested for child porn possession, later revealed to be a much darker individual

There have been so many horrible accounts in the news over the last few years of people being arrested and charged with possession of child pornographic materials, that it’s almost become desensitizing and not as shocking to the senses as it really should be. But yesterday in Okaloosa County, what began as an almost routine child possession case evolved into a much more serious instance of real-world child sexual abuse, according to a February 24 announcement from the local Sheriff’s Office.
The story begins with recent search of micro-SD cards seized during a search warrant at a Crestview man’s house led to the discovery of more than 30 child pornography files. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) deputies executed the search warrant on February 19 after locating incriminating information during an analysis of a computer software sharing process taking place at a residence in the 100 block of Kipling Drive in Crestview.
Christopher Vogel, 38, was charged with possession of child pornography and taken to the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview. As the Sheriff’s Office investigation into Vogel’s activities progressed, it became evident that the man was in possession of much more than simple child porn files.
During an ongoing digital forensic investigation, investigators found evidence on Vogel’s cell phone that he had sexually abused a child and produced child pornography at his residence. On February 21, the OCSO added charges for Sexual Battery of a Victim under 12 and eight counts of Production of Child Pornography.
The judge has since denied bond for Vogel and he remains in the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview.
