Daniel Radcliffe not interested in reprising iconic role in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’
Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed the title character of Harry Potter in the eight-film series by the same name, is taking a hard pass and is not interested in returning to the franchise – at least not for the immediate future. When asked in a recent interview with The New York Times if he would consider reprising the role he made famous in a film adaption of the stage play that continues the story of the Harry Potter book series, the star basically said “no thanks.”
“This isn’t the answer that anybody’s going to want, but I think I was so able to go back and enjoy it because it’s not a part of my day-to-day life anymore,” Radcliffe said.
“I’m never going to say never, but the “Star Wars” guys had like 30, 40 years before they went back. For me, it’s only been 10. It’s not something I’m really interested in doing right now.”
Taken as canon as being the follow up story to the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a theatrical play that premiered in London in 2016 and hit the Broadway stage in 2018. The play looks at what became of the Harry Potter characters 19 years after the 2007 release of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows novel.
19 years after Harry, Ron, and Hermione saved the wizarding world, they’re back on a most extraordinary new adventure – this time, joined by a brave new generation that has only just arrived at the legendary Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play by Jack Thorne, directed by John Tiffany. The acclaimed play is now playing at the Lyric Theatre on Broadway, according to Broadway World.
There was some recent interest by the powers that be in making that play into a movie starring the original film cast.
But MSN confirmed that fans should not hold their breaths for a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie with the full cast returning. At least not yet. While the core cast members of the Warner Bros. franchise recently reunited for the 20th anniversary HBO Max special, Daniel Radcliffe says he’s not interested in returning to the world of “Harry Potter” for a new movie at this current juncture.
“I’m getting to a point where I feel like I made it out of ‘Potter’ OK … to go back would be such a massive change to my life.” ~ The Huffington Post
But the Harry Potter star is keeping busy. The Huffington Post also shared that Radcliffe is currently starring alongside Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in The Lost City, which premieres on the big screens beginning today. He is also playing “Weird Al” Yankovic in an upcoming biopic.
