Darnell Taylor, 5, kidnapped Wednesday, found dead in Ohio sewer drain
A two-day search for a missing five-year-old boy from Ohio has ended in tragedy as police say that the body of young Darnell Taylor was found in a sewer drain early yesterday morning. Darnell’s foster mother, Pammy Maye, has been arrested and is now looking at potential charges of murder, kidnapping, and child endangerment in connection to Darnell’s abduction and death, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
On Friday, February 16, the Columbus Division of Police held a morning press conference to share the distressing news. “We have some very unfortunate news to share,” Columbus Police Chief Elaine R. Bryant said at a morning news conference. “This is a tragic development and we certainly hoped for a different outcome.”
Background: On Wednesday, police in Ohio sent out a plea to the public asking for help in locating Darnell, saying that shortly after 3 a.m. that morning, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Reeb Avenue when the 911 caller stated his wife, 48-year-old Pammy Maye woke him up and made statements that made him believe that their foster child, Darnell had been hurt.
The husband told police that Mrs. Maye abruptly left the residence in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. She was last seen wearing a green floral nightgown and pink shoes. It is believed that Darnell was wearing Spiderman pajamas and white boots. A statewide AMBER Alert was issued in an effort to locate the child. The Jeep was subsequently discovered in Brooklyn, Ohio, shortly before 6 a.m., but Mrs. Maye and Darnell were nowhere to be seen.
On the evening of February 15, police dispatch began receiving calls about a disoriented woman wandering around wearing a nightgown and not wearing any shoes. Police located that woman, identified her as Pammy Maye, and arrested her.
Maye was transported to a hospital in the Cleveland area for medical treatment. Columbus investigators responded and after interviewing her, investigators were alerted to the fact that the body of the 5-year-old might be located in a sewer. ~ CBS News
