DeLand man punches out girlfriend in front of the couple’s two young children then starts shooting
On April 29, detectives with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office arrested a 30-year-old DeLand, Florida, man on domestic violence charges. According to police, the arrest went down hours after he punched his girlfriend in the face. The girlfriend also reported that someone was shooting at her vehicle as she fled the assault scene with the couple’s two daughters.
The incident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. on Wednesday when the girlfriend drove to a residence in the 1200 block of South Delaware Avenue in DeLand, where the father of the children, Tajh Curry, was located.
When the woman drove into the driveway, Curry reportedly approached her driver’s side window and an argument between the two ensued. Curry punched the woman in the face with a closed fist. As she rolled up her window and prepared to flee, Curry punched the vehicle window, breaking it.
The victim drove toward Orange City, then realized someone was following her in a passenger vehicle. The driver suddenly began shooting at her vehicle, striking it multiple times.
The woman then accelerated, striking the median on U.S. 17-92 and damaged her vehicle in the crash.
Immediately after she struck that median, deputies conducted a traffic stop as they had observed her driving recklessly. During that traffic stop, the victim explained to deputies what had happened. No additional injuries were reported by the woman or her children, ages 9 and 4.
Curry was arrested yesterday afternoon after he was spotted at the home on South Delaware Avenue.
He is charged with burglary with battery and simple battery. Deputies said that they would be transporting him to the Volusia County Branch Jail where he will remain held without bond.
