On July 24, the Delray Beach Police Department (DRPD) announced that one of their own was taken into custody when DRPD Officer Dallas Richardson turned himself in to Florida’s Palm Beach County Jail on Saturday night.  The officer is looking at charges of second-degree arson and perjury.

On March 29, 2020, Richardson called the Boynton Beach police department to report his 2017 Chevy Tahoe had been stolen.  Earlier that morning, a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy found Richardson’s SUV burning on Lake Ida Road near Military Trail. The Tahoe’s license plate was missing, and the vehicle identification number (VIN) had been removed.

An arson investigator was called to the scene and determined that an accelerant had been used to set the vehicle on fire.  During the investigation, Richardson was interviewed twice. The investigator said there were multiple inconsistencies with his statements. The Palm Beach County State Attorney’s office issued a warrant for his arrest.

Richardson joined the Delray Beach Police Department in March 2019. He has been on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
