Disney star Cameron Boyce dies at the tender age of 20
(Updated, 7/8/2019, 6:13 p.m.) Child star turned young adult actor and philanthropist Cameron Boyce has been in the public eye since the tender age of 11. In 2010, he was on the big screen co-starring as one of Adam Sandler’s children in the movie “Grown Ups.” Most of us came to know him beginning in 2011 from his role as young Luke Ross on the Disney Channel comedy series “Jessie’ starring Debby Ryan.
Few of us realized that the young man had been suffering from a serious and ongoing medical condition. Yesterday we learned from a spokesperson for his family that – on July 6 – Cameron died in his sleep after a seizure that was a result of his medical condition. Cameron Boyce was only 20 years old at the time of his passing.
TMZ reports that Boyce suffered from epilepsy, which triggered his seizures.
The Los Angeles Times shared his spokesperson’s statement:
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron,” the spokesperson said. “He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated.”
“The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him. We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother,” the family said in a statement.
CNN shared the following statement from the Disney Channel:
“From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world.”
“He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, castmates and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed.”
Boyce was also starring in the three “Descendants” television films playing the role of Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil. Back in January, Deadline announced that Boyce had joined the cast of the upcoming HBO comedy series “Mrs. Fletcher.”
