Domestic altercation leads to SWAT team ending barricade situation in California, Maryland

On Wednesday, February 1, police in Maryland took a man into custody after he barricaded himself inside a St. Mary’s County home, while holding a woman and two children inside the residence with him and against their will. Maryland State Police have identified the man who barricaded himself inside the home as 40-year-old Dennis Andrew Gibson, of California, Maryland.
At approximately 8 p.m. last night, a woman contacted troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack regarding a domestic incident that occurred at a residence in the 23300 block of Sugar Maple Court in California, Maryland. According to a preliminary investigation, Gibson and that female victim who made the call were involved in a verbal alteration.
As that verbal altercation escalated, Gibson retrieved a handgun and shot a wall inside the home. ~ Maryland State Police
Police say that eventually, the woman and the two kids were successful in safely escaping the residence. Troopers tried calling Gibson out of the house, but he would not comply with their repeated requests.
Members of the Maryland State Police STATE Team (SWAT) entered the home shortly before 4 a.m. on Wednesday and took the man into custody without incident. No injuries were reported as a result of this case.
Troopers recovered seven firearms, rounds of ammunition and loaded magazines from inside the home.
Following his arrest, Gibson was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and numerous firearms violations. He is being held without bail at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.
Officials did not disclose the relationship that may have existed between Gibson, the female victim and the two children.
