Donald Trump dominates Iowa caucus, all eyes now turn to New Hampshire
The Iowan cold and snow did not keep voters away last night where Donald Trump unsurprisingly took the #1 spot in the Iowa caucuses as the Republican presidential primaries officially got underway in the Hawkeye State. Trump has held a commanding lead in all the polls since Day One; and last night, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley were far behind in the second and third spots. The voting ended in Iowa with Trump walking away with 51% of the votes.
In his victory speech, Trump thanked Iowans, said that he loved them, and commented on the second and third place Republican candidates. “I want to congratulate Ron and Nikki for having a good time together. I think they both did very well. We don’t know what the outcome of second place is.” Uncharacteristically, Trump spoke in softer tones last night, saying it was time for the country to come back together.
After all was said and done with the voting last night, Ron DeSantis addressed voters, and instead of taking a victory lap for winning second place ahead of Nikki Haley, he complained about the media declaring Trump as the winner before the polls had even closed, going as far as to say that the media was guilty of election interference.
“It is absolutely outrageous that the media would participate in election interference by calling the race before tens of thousands of Iowans even had a chance to vote. The media is in the tank for Trump and this is the most egregious example yet,” DeSantis Communications Director Andrew Romeo said in a statement.
Nikki Haley responded to her landing in third place in the caucus with dignity and grace and wanted her supporters to know she was far from being defeated and reminded everyone that she planned on seeing much better results for her campaign in New Hampshire – where she appears to be leading in the polls ahead of DeSantis.
“Tonight I will be back in the great state of New Hampshire,” Haley said, standing at the podium at the West Des Moines Marriott, a row of American flags draped behind her. “And the question before Americans is now very clear: Do you want more of the same, or do you want a new generation?”

Next up for the Republican Presidential Primaries are the January 23 New Hampshire primary elections. In one poll, Trump still shows a commanding lead in New Hampshire, but Haley was running a strong second place with DeSantis placing third in single digits.
