Driver who intentionally mowed down pedestrian in Publix parking lot identified and arrested
Earlier this month, Police in Oakland Park, Florida, described the driver of a vehicle who went out of his way to run over a pedestrian on the evening of February 23 in the Publix parking lot located at 950 East Commercial Blvd. in Oakland Park as “bizarre, cruel and reckless.” Police also described that driver’s actions as constituting aggravated battery and released a surveillance video showing the suspect running the pedestrian over. After that video was released, leads and tips came in from the general public resulting in an arrest.
Luis Alberto Ferri was identified as the driver who intentionally ran over the pedestrian.
Video shows that at approximately 8 p.m., the driver of a car resembling a Kia Soul stops to allowing a pedestrian to walk in front of his car. As the victim finishes crossing the vehicle, the driver accelerates and turns in the direction of the victim. The victim’s leg was broken as a result. The driver fled south on North Dixie Highway.
Ferri surrendered to law enforcement on April 9. He is now facing a charge of aggravated battery and a $50,000 bond.
The security video from inside the Publix store shows Ferri as he entered the store minutes before the attack.
