Drug dealer carrying 1,000 joints mistakes cop car for taxi cab
Just as police began trying to crack down on the lucrative drug trade in the alternative enclave of Christiania in Copenhagen, a drug dealer holding about 1,000 joints of marijuana hopped into what he thought was a taxi cab – when in reality he was hopping into the back seat of a police car. The Danish police said that the drug dealer was in a hurry to get home and thought he was getting into a taxi cab, not a cop car, according to BBC News.
Christiania was founded in the 1970s by hippies who made that semi-autonomous district of the capital a center for trafficking in drugs. Recently, Danish police have been cracking down on the drug trade in the area. Sometimes they get an assist from stupid criminals. Marijuana is illegal in Denmark. Danish police released the following statement, shared by MSN News:
“Last night a cannabis dealer from Christiania who wanted to get home quickly got into a taxi. He received a big surprise when he realised it was actually a police car he was sitting in. The police officers were happy to see him, since he was carrying around 1,000 joints.”
Police in Denmark said that the drug dealer could be looking at a custodial sentence, i.e. jail time. The Daily Mail reports that in their efforts to crack down on the drug trade in Christiania, police there have been carrying out numerous drug raids and have been using drones in their surveillance efforts.
