The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) reports that two Florida men are now behind bars after an altercation over infidelity and methamphetamine use escalated into gunfire with one man chasing the other down the street in a residential Vero Beach neighborhood.
The man with the gun, 64-year-old Mark Perruzzi, learned that his girlfriend had invited Jason Nesbitt, 46, over to their Vero Beach, Florida, home to take part in some methamphetamine and have an “intimate “encounter. There is some history with the three, as police said that Perruzzi had previously warned Nesbitt to stay away from his significant other.
But when Perruzzi learned of Nesbitt being at his home located in the 200 block of 20th Avenue, he armed himself with a 45-caliber semiautomatic handgun and shot at Nesbitt from the second-story balcony. As Nesbitt tried to make his escape on a bicycle, Perruzzi chased him down the street – and neighbors in the area began dialing 911.
When IRCSO deputies arrived on the scene, they took Perruzzi into custody. As deputies were interviewing Nesbitt, they discovered he was in possession of methamphetamine.
Detectives were called to respond and were able to get a search warrant for the home.
Detectives located a 45-caliber handgun and a spent 45 caliber shell casing.
Both Nesbitt and Perruzzi were transported to the Indian River County Jail. Following their arrests, both men were criminally charged.
Nesbitt was charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Perruzzi was charged with Felony Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
