Eight Las Vegas high school students arrested for murdering teen classmate in brutal beatdown

On November 14, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) provided an update in the case of a high school student being murdered by eight of his classmates.  The victim in this murder investigation has been identified as 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis, according to MSN.

Background: On November 1, 2023, at approximately 2:05 p.m., LVMPD officers responded to reports of a fight involving students near a school in the 1900 block of Searles Avenue.  School personnel performed CPR on the juvenile who appeared to be unconscious. Medical personnel responded and transported the victim to UMC Hospital where he was pronounced deceased several days later.

Reportedly, around 15 youths allegedly and brutally attacked the 17-year-old victim near Rancho High School when he tried to stand up for a younger friend who had been robbed by the gang.

On November 14, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Undersheriff Andrew Walsh and Homicide Lieutenant Jason Johansson provided an update to the investigation on the senseless murder.

Eight high school students in Las Vegas between the ages of 13 and 17 have been arrested on suspicion of murder in the fatal beating of a classmate, authorities announced Tuesday at a news conference.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify eight juveniles involved in the homicide. The individuals were arrested by The Criminal Apprehension Team and booked into the Clark County Juvenile Hall for open murder.

According to KSNV News in Las Vegas, Lewis’ fatal beatdown was videotaped by the assailants and those watching the mugging, with those videos going viral on social media. Las Vegas police arrested eight of those alleged assailants on Tuesday after serving search warrants to collect clothing seen in the videos. Police said the ages of the suspects arrested so far range from 13 to 17 years of age. They were booked in the Clark County Juvenile Hall and charged with murder.
