Ex-Fairfax County cop arrested on child abuse charges in Frederick, Maryland (Video)
On June 15, police in Maryland reported arresting a man on child abuse and related charges in Frederick County. The arrest went down on June 14 at the man’s residence in Frederick.
Jason Michael Colley, 43, a former police officer with Virginia’s Fairfax County Police Department, has been charged with second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault. He was transported to the Frederick County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
According to a preliminary investigation, investigators from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division Western Region on Tuesday were contacted by the Frederick County Department of Social Service-Child Protective Services and advised of a physical child abuse investigation of a juvenile. The Maryland State Police and the Frederick County Child Protective Services conducted a joint investigation, where it was determined that criminal charges should be filed against Colley.
The Daily Voice out of Frederick reported that Colley is “no stranger to both sides of law enforcement.”
Colley served 10 years with the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia, though he later found himself on the other end of things following the death of his 6-month-old daughter in Maryland in 2017.
Last year, the former officer pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and was sentenced to eight years of home confinement after agreeing to an Alford plea, where he maintained his innocence but admitted that he was likely to be found at fault if he went to trial. ~ The Daily Voice
Investigators do not believe any other juveniles were injured or are in danger at this time.
Maryland State Police say this case remains under investigation. For more on Jason Michael Colley, see the video accompanying this article.
