In an unexpected turn of events, as Colt Gray – the 14-year-old shooter who gunned down and killed two students, two teachers and seriously injured nine more people at Georgia’s Apalachee High School on the morning of September 4 is awaiting his first day in court today on four counts of felony murder, the shooter’s father, Colin Gray, was also arrested yesterday on multiple charges.  Law enforcement officials in Barrow County say that Colin Gray knowingly allowed his son, Colt, to have the weapon involved in the horrific school shooting.

Reportedly, the “AR platform-style weapon” Colt Gray used in the school shooting was a Christmas present from his father, Colin.

In coordination with District Attorney Brad Smith, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested 54-year-old Colin Gray yesterday and charged ed him with the following:

  • 4 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter
  • 2 counts of Second-Degree Murder, and,
  • 8 counts of Cruelty to Children

GBI Director Chris Hosey said that, “His charges are directly connected with the actions of his son and allowing him to possess a weapon.”  Colin Gray’s first court appearance has not yet been set, according to The Independent.

The 14-year-old shooter, Colt Gray, had previously been charged with four counts of felony murder in connection to the shooting at Apalachee High School.  After he surrendered to law enforcement officials inside the school following the shootings, he was taken to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center. Additional charges are expected.

Colt Gray’s first appearance will be today, Friday morning, at 8:30 a.m.

The autopsies of the four victims were scheduled to be performed yesterday at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office.  Authorities have not yet provided any motive into Colt Gray’s school shooting.

The four fatalities in Wednesday’s shootings were identified as:

  • Mason Schermerhorn, age 14,
