Feds say Morris Meat major raw pork recall due to pork products not being inspected
Morris Meat Packing, headquartered in a Maywood, Illinois, has recalled approximately 515,000 pounds of various raw, intact pork products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection and outside inspection hours, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS.)
The raw, intact pork items from Morris Meat were produced on Saturdays from November 25, 2017 to November 9, 2019.
You can see a complete list of all of those products here; and a complete list of all the products’ labels, here.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 18267” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distributors and retail locations in Illinois.
The problem was discovered when FSIS received an anonymous tip that the firm was producing products without the benefit of inspection.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
Consumers with questions regarding the recall can contact Frank Masellis, President of Morris Meat Packing, at (708) 865-8566.
This is a Class I Recall indicating a “health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
