Fellsmere man sentenced after beating, dragging pregnant woman into the woods
Recently, 35-year-old Chris Collett from Fellsmere, Florida, was sentenced to four years behind bars after being found guilty of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman and battery by strangulation. The investigation into Collett’s activities by the Fellsmere Police Department (FPD) began in April as a result of his alleged violence against two different women in two separate incidents approximately 10 days a part.
After obtaining arrest warrants for Collett on the first incident, officers responded to the vicinity of Michigan Avenue and S. Elm Street in Fellsmere at approximately 5:00 p.m. on April 16th to investigate an altercation where Collett was observed by witnesses dragging a woman into “the woods” by her hair.
Upon arrival, an FPD officer saw Collette standing over the woman as she laid on the ground. Collett saw the officer and fled deeper into the woods prompting the need for K9 assistance.
A K9 team from the IRCSO responded and after several minutes of searching the thickly wooded area, “bite apprehended” Collett in his upper thigh area. He was treated for the bite wounds at the hospital and remained in custody at the county jail until his cases were processed.
Collett’s arrest location has been recorded as being at 41st Avenue in Vero Beach. The 300-pound, unemployed Collett is currently being held with no bond.
