A North Carolina man and his daughter are facing multiple counts of animal cruelty.  On November 26, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office in Taylorsville, North Carolina, reported that their deputies, along with Alexander County Animal Control, responded to a residence located on Hiddenite Church Road in the Hiddenite community of Alexander County regarding an animal cruelty tip.

When investigators arrived on the scene on November 22, Animal Control found three dead dogs along with nine other dogs that were severely malnourished.  One cat was also observed at that location.

The deceased dogs were in dog lots with one of the animals on a collar and chain. After Animal Control left the scene to obtain a search warrant, officers with Alexander County Sheriff’s Office returned with Animal Control and found the three deceased dogs had been buried in their absence.

Animal Control seized all animals on the property in accordance with the search warrant.  The animals were taken to a local veterinary office, where they were evaluated.

Alexander County Sheriff’s Office charged Christopher Todd Bowes, 44, of Hiddenite, with three counts of Felony Kill Animal by Starvation.  He was arrested on the scene and transported to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he was placed under a $60,000 secured bond.

By November 25, Bowes had been charged additionally with six counts of Misdemeanor Animal Cruelty, for six of the dogs being unlawfully and willfully deprived of necessary sustenance. He was given an additional secured bond of $10,000, bringing his total bond to $70,000.
