A female stunt driver filming a motorcycle shot on the set of “Deadpool 2” in Vancouver, Canada, died this morning after her bike went airborne and crashed through a glass window, according to an August 14 report from Fox News. The stunt driver’s identity has not yet been released.  The tragic accident occurred near the downtown Vancouver waterfront area at Jack Poole Plaza.

Witnesses on the set said the stunt driver never braked as she was filming the scene and crashed through the glass. The woman was pulled from the crash site and transported to a local hospital while police taped off the area. Witnesses told CTV News “the stunt woman appeared to lose control of the motorcycle, which drove off set and crashed through the window of Shaw Tower across the street.”

Nathan Kramchynski watched the tragedy unfold from the seventh floor of Shaw Tower. He said the stunt driver did a couple takes or practice runs driving down a set of stairs and stopping before the street, but on the final attempt she zoomed onto the road and through a glass window pane, narrowly missing some pedestrians.  “The last one was quick and she wobbled out,” Kramchynski said. “It was a thud, she just disappeared [into the building].” ~ CTV News

The accident is currently under investigation by agents with WorkSafeBC who are trying to determine the cause for the tragedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  “Deadpool 2” stars actor Ryan Reynolds who is reprising his Marvel super-hero role from the original and popular action movie “Deadpool.” Filming for this Deadpool sequel began in June in British Columbia, Canada, and has an anticipated release date in June, 2018.  Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds tweeted his profound sorrow regarding todays accident:

This is the second stunt person death in recent history.  Production was halted on the AMC ‘s “The Walking Dead” on July 12 following the death of stuntman John Bernecker. The veteran stuntman died on the set after a choreographed fall from a 20 foot balcony went fatally wrong.  When Bernecker hit the ground, he missed his safety cushion by only scant inches and landed directly on a concrete slab.
