On March 18, Warner Bros. released word that filming has officially begun for the entertainment company’s remake of the 1984 science fiction film epic “Dune” which was based on the 1965 bestselling novel by Frank Herbert. The latest iteration of the classic film is being directed by Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival” and “Blade Runner 2049”).

The new sci-fi epic stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet plus Rebecca Ferguson Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen Henderson.  Also starring will be Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem. As of this writing, Chang Chen is in discussions to join the cast.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.

As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Villeneuve is directing “Dune” from a screenplay he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts based on Herbert’s novel.

The highly anticipated remake is being filmed on location in Budapest, Hungary and in Jordan. The film is slated for a November 20, 2020 worldwide release from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment.
