Five hurt, one dead, one critical in Baltimore shooting and car crash
Yesterday, police in Baltimore shared the gruesome news that combined city street gun violence with a deadly car crash. On January 28 just after the sun went around 6:40 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Laurens Street in reference to a ShotSpotter alert.
When police arrived at that location, they discovered three people suffering from gunshots wounds. There were two men, ages 65 and 43, and one 23-year-old woman. Sadly, there were also two youngsters that were injured, a three-year-old little boy and a two-month-old baby boy.
After medics arrived on the scene, they transported all the victims to local area hospitals. Ace News Today learned that the 23-year-old woman and the 65-year-old man were listed in stable condition, but that the 43-year-old man died from his wounds.
“… a three-year-old male toddler and two-month-old male infant, were injured as a result of the vehicle collision that occurred when the driver was shot. The three-year-old toddler is in stable condition and the two-month-old infant is in critical, but stable condition.” ~ Baltimore Police Department
CBS News shared that, leading up to the shootings and car crash, that “two men were standing around that intersection when a car with a woman and two children inside, drove through. That’s when gunshots rang out. It caused the woman to crash the car.” The police investigation also revealed that neither the toddler or the baby sustained any gunshot wounds, but they did suffer from head trauma and lacerations due to the car crash.
No arrests have been made yet regarding this incident and police are still searching for suspects, according to Fox News. Police do have one person in custody but it’s not certain yet if that person is considered a suspect in the shooting, according to WBAL-TV in Baltimore.
“What we believed happened was a gunman or multiple gunmen opened fire,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said, asking for witnesses to come forward.
“We do not know if they intended target were the people in the vehicle or the people on the sidewalk.”
Homicide investigators were called to the scene and have assumed control over the investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Homicide detectives, at 410-396-2100.
