On February 22, Sheriff Mike Chitwood of the Volusia Sheriff’s Office shared the horrific news that a Spectrum News 13 Journalist / News Anchor was shot and killed while covering a news story and working on the scene of a homicide investigation in Pine Hills Florida.  The Orange County Sheriff’s Office identified the shooting victim that died yesterday as 24-year-old as Spectrum News 13 reporter Dylan Lyons.  Photographer / videographer Jesse Walden of Spectrum News 13 was also shot and survived.

Pine Hills is located in Orange County, Florida just west of Orlando.

My News 13 reported Orange County Sheriff John Mina as saying that a nine-year-old girl was also killed in a separate, but related, random shooting. On Thursday morning, the Sheriff’s Office in a tweet identified the girl as T’yonna Major. Her mother was also shot and survived.

In another update, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest and the identity of the shooter. Sheriff Mina said that Keith Melvin Moses, 19, was identified as the suspect in a series of shootings that left three dead, in OCSO custody.

Sheriff Mina:  “This is a sad day for our community. Three were murdered today, including a woman in her 20s, a 9-year-old girl and a Spectrum News 13 employee.  No one in our community – not a 9 year old child or a media professional – should become the victim of gun violence. Three people murdered by the acts of one criminal. We are grieving with our media partners at News13 – and with our whole community tonight.”

Keith Moses remains in jail on no bond. He has been arrested on charges of First Degree Murder for the shooting death of Ms. Augustin. More charges will be filed for the additional murders and shootings.

Dylan Thomas’ family has established a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
