There’s a very strange story coming out of Martin County, Florida, regarding a young man who was taking flying lessons at the Treasure Coast Flight School located at Whitham Field Airport in Stuart, Florida. The student, 23-year old Sumebh Singh, who according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office is a student from India, got angry with instructors there, and the school, when he was informed that he was not being allowed to go on a solo flight.

He got so angry that he took it out by damaging a bunch of airplanes at the school.

School officials called the Sheriff’s Office when they said they saw Singh on surveillance video going from plane to plane – causing damage to each of the aircraft.  Items like the plane’s throttle were damaged.  In total, Singh wreaked havoc on 10 of the school’s aircraft.

The planes had to be grounded until mechanics could determine exactly what damage was caused to each of the planes. The strange part of the story that comes in to play, is why was the young man so angry about not being able to take a solo flight?   Officials are leaning toward the theory that he perhaps had some as of yet unknown nefarious intentions about what his plans would be after he got the plane off the ground.

An owner with a different flight training school told WPTV that regulations, which strengthened after 9/11, required background checks, visas, registration by the trainee and instructor to be entered into an online database along with other requirements. He said it can take time for students to receive permission to fly.

The FBI will be also getting involved in the investigation.  In the meanwhile, following his arrest at Whitman Field, Singh was charged with felony criminal mischief.  The Martin County Sheriff added that additional charges are possible.
