Florida man arrested for murder, detained by witnesses who saw him trying to remove the victim’s body
A 31-year-old man from Winter Haven, Florida, was taken into custody yesterday accused of being responsible for a fatal shooting that went down in Lakeland, Florida, late on Saturday night. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting suspect has been identified as Shannon Owens, who was wanted on several out of county warrants. The deadly shooting occurred around 11:20 p.m. in the 5500 block of Deeson Road in Lakeland.
Homicide detectives determined that the victim had arrived at the property and made verbal contact with Owens, and a gunshot was heard soon after. The victim suffered an upper-body gunshot wound and Owens was allegedly seen attempting to remove the victim’s body. ~ Click Orlando
During the course of their investigation into the shooting, homicide detectives determined that the victim arrived at the property in Lakeland, which is located in Hillsborough County, and made contact with Owens. Soon after the two met, a gunshot was heard. Witnesses in the immediate area discovered the victim with an upper-body gunshot wound and also saw Owens attempting to remove the body.
Those witnesses detained Owens until Hillsborough County Deputies arrived on the scene.
Owens is now looking at several charges, among them Second Degree Murder. He’s also looking at a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and was wanted on three out of county warrants for possession of methamphetamine and two counts of battery on a law enforcement official.
Currently, Owens is being detained at Falkenburg Road Jail where he is being held without bond. Officials have not yet released the identity of the shooting victim.
