Florida man charged with murder after beating his Naples’ grandparents with a hammer
On May 18, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced the arrest of a 34-year-old Naples, Florida, man who brutally assaulted his grandparents with a hammer, resulting in the violent beating of his grandfather and the vicious murder of the man’s grandmother. Detectives say that Anthony Michael Corrado, who was released from prison last year, brutalized the couple in their Golden Gate Estates home.Â
NBC-2 identified the grandparents as Mary and Tony Schiavone and reported that in 2018 the grandmother had to take out an order of protection against her grandson due to a history of domestic violence. Mary was 82 years old at the time of her death and Tony was reportedly in his 70s.
Detectives said that around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Corrado called a housekeeper to help him clean up a residence on 16th Street Northeast. When the housekeeper arrived, a blood-stained Corrado led her to a bedroom where a woman was located. Frightened, the housekeeper left the residence under the pretense she needed to get cleaning supplies from her car. She drove away and flagged down a CCSO deputy in his patrol vehicle a short distance away.
According to the Naples Daily News, the housekeeper informed the authorities that she could see the elderly woman, “wrapped in a tarp – with a bag wrapped around her head.”
She told deputies that she thought she heard a respirator or someone breathing heavily. A bag was wrapped around her head, and when the housekeeper attempted to remove it, Corrado said to stop and that it would get blood everywhere.
He asked her to take the body from the home, the arrest affidavit says, and disable the home’s security system.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they located the deceased female, who was later identified as Corrado’s grandmother. They found the grandfather in another room wrapped in a blanket with severe head injuries. He was flown by medical helicopter to a trauma center.
A hammer with blood on it was located on a kitchen countertop. Blood was on the walls and floors inside the residence. Deputies located Corrado standing outside the residence with blood on his clothing.
Deputies arrested Corrado and booked him into the Collier County Jail where he’s being held with no bond. Corrado has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated battery on a person over age 65.
