Florida man gets jail time for threatening to kill Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts
Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard sentenced 43-year-old Neal Brij Sidhwaney of Fernandina Beach, Florida, to 14 months in federal prison for “transmitting an interstate threat to kill.” Sidhwaney was arrested by Florida’s Nassau County Sheriff’s Office in August 2023 on an out of state warrant. He pleaded guilty to charges on December 15, 2023.
According to court documents, on July 31, 2023, Sidhwaney placed a telephone call from Florida to the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C., and left an expletive-laden, threatening voicemail message. On the voicemail message Sidhwaney identified himself by name and repeatedly threatened to kill a specific United States Supreme Court Justice.
According to Politico, Sidhwaney identified Chief Justice John Roberts as his intended target during a psychological evaluation that was placed in court records but later sealed. ~ CBS News
This case was investigated by the Supreme Court of the United States Police – Protective Intelligence Unit with assistance from the United States Capitol Police –Threat Assessment Section. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kirwinn Mike and Special Assistant United States Attorney Joe Wheeler, III.
Sidhwaney got off easy with his 14-months sentence as he was facing a maximum of five years in prison for his threatening phone call.
