Florida man’s reckless driving leads to police chase, canal dive, stolen gun, fentanyl, crack cocaine bust
Yesterday, Florida’s Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reported on a case of a deputy witnessing some reckless driving in progress. When the deputy attempted to pull the driver over, the driver – identified as 23-year-old David Moore of West Palm Beach – made the bad decision to make a run for it which initiated a police chase.
The car chase ended when deputies deployed stop sticks, which disabled Moore’s vehicle. But the chase didn’t stop there. Moore jumped out of his car and fled away on foot. Making another bad decision, he tried hiding in a deep-water canal.
After a brief manhunt, MCSO Deputy Wes McNeal and his K-9 partner Groll joined the search. McNeal and Groll also got int the dark, muddy canal waters where they swam together trying to locate their fugitive. Eventually, K-9 Groll led Deputy McNeal directly to Moore.

Like a scene from Jaws with paws, David Moore had nowhere to hide. He was removed from the water and taken into custody. But like they say, you can run, but you can’t hide. Moore can swim, well at least he tried. ~ MCSO
It wasn’t too long after Moore was taken into custody that deputies realized why he was making those desperate runs from the law. Inside Moore’s vehicle, deputies recovered two thousand dollars in cash, a stolen gun, 13-grams of fentanyl, crack cocaine, and a vitamin powder used to cut the fentanyl. So, it was likely he was running from prison time.
