Florida pharmacist busted stealing $94,000 worth of meds
On Thursday, November 17, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, headquartered in Punta Gorda, Florida, announced that their Economic Crimes Unit and Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the Winn Dixie grocery store located at 3280 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte in reference to an alleged theft of medication.
An investigation revealed the Pharmacy Manager, 31-year-old Kerolos Ibrahim, was captured on video surveillance by Loss Prevention/Assets committing multiple non-controlled substances, prescription thefts. The manager was observed removing medication from the shelf, placing it inside a plastic bag, and driving to his place of residency in Sarasota County. With the assistance of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was conducted at his residence where the stolen medications items were collected and recovered.
Throughout his arrest proceedings, Ibrahim cooperated with authorities and provided a sworn statement wherein he confessed to taking the meds. Following his arrest, the Pharmacy Manager was charged with Grand Theft. His stolen medications amounted to a grand total of $94,000.
The Sheriff’s Office said that it does not appear that any customer information was used during the commission of the crime. CCSO went on to say that their investigation is still active and ongoing.
