Florida Sheriff’s Office rescues pack of pups left abandoned on the side of the road
We often hear about individuals rescuing animals by providing an abandoned dog or cat with a new forever home. But on September 19, it was a local Sheriff’s Office in Florida that rescued not one, not two, but an entire pack of dogs that were dumped along the side the road in Stuart and abandoned without any food or water. And now, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is looking for tips that would lead to whoever dumped those pups.
They were filthy, matted, and eager to stay in their scattered pack. Despite their best efforts to hide from the unknown, Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Animal Services Officers, with the help from a citizen, were able to locate and rescue several of the dogs believed to have been dumped in a wooded area on Ault and Cove Road. ~ MCSO
In total, nine of the animals, mostly female, were safely taken into care, with one still on the loose. That one dog was spotted but has been too frightened to be caught. Animals Services Officers are working to find the dog, and any others that may have been dumped in that location.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has opened a criminal investigation into the animal dumping. The dogs are a Lhasa Apso breed, mostly females with some males, ages 4-months to four years old. The animals were suffering from urine burns due to matting and filth. Otherwise, the Sheriff’s Office reported that the dogs are doing well – thanks to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast.
The animals will not be up for adoption until after a criminal investigation is complete.
If you have any information on who may have done this, or you saw one roaming and took custody of it, please call the Martin County Sheriff’s Office at 220-7060. The Sheriff’s Office would like an accurate accounting of just how many animals were abandoned.
