On the evening of December 30, Florida’s Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) shared an announcement so horrific and potentially disturbing that they refused to go into any great detail.  What we can tell you is that officials have arrested and charged 16-year-old Coleson Charles Hibbard with felony animal cruelty following his alleged killing of a dog that was given to him by a friend.

According to the Sheriff’s Office:

The details associated with this case are so disturbing that we are unable to disclose them on social media. However, we can tell you that a video of the brutal stabbing and subsequent violent death of the helpless animal was recorded. The video, which was collected into evidence, shows in part, the dog tied to a tree with a gaping stab wound, and Hibbard can be heard on the recording, which somehow made its way onto social media. ~ MCSO

Coleson Hibbard has been charged with felony animal cruelty and was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice.  No additional information regarding the specifics surrounding is currently available.  Public reactions to the story are understandably and mostly characterized as falling into a category of people being shocked and filled with outrage.

“Aggravated animal cruelty is a third-degree felony under Florida criminal law 828.12, and carries a maximum penalty of up to 5 years in prison. A conviction for this offense also carries a potential fine of up to $10,000 and the possibility of being ordered to undergo psychological counseling and anger management.”  ~ The Herbst Firm, Attorneys at Law
