Yesterday, law enforcement officials in Jacksonville, Florida, reported on a macabre series of events that concluded with a local youth being charged with helping murder his own father.
On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) responded to the 6800 block of Sandle Drive in reference to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, Shane Payne was located inside his home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The father of six was gunned down inside of his home on Sandle drive in Northwest Jacksonville, his mother Phyllis Payne said all of his kids were home at the time.
“They said someone kept throwing rocks at the door, my older grandson answered, went to look to see what’s going on and that’s when the masked man came in the house with a gun towards him and forced his way in,” she said.

On Saturday, August 6, 2022, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office also responded to a shooting incident in the 4800 block Ortega Farms Boulevard. Upon arrival, 16-year-old Timothy Dixon was located suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
JSO Homicide Detectives along with members of the Crime Scene Unit responded to conduct their respective investigations regarding these incidents. Based on a review of the available evidence on scene, and following interviews conducted by Homicide Detectives, it was revealed that these two investigations were linked.
As a result, Timothy Dixon was identified as the suspect who was responsible for killing Shane Payne with the assistance of Shane Payne Jr., who helped facilitate the actions of Timothy Dixon. Shane Payne Jr., 17, was then identified as the suspect who was responsible for killing Timothy Dixon three days later.
Due to Shane Payne Jr. being currently incarcerated at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on unrelated charges, an additional arrest warrant with the offenses of two counts of Second-Degree Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder were served on him. Law enforcement officials have not shared motives for either of the two homicides.
