Florida woman purposefully drives into oncoming traffic to intentionally cause a wreck
Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) in Shalimar, Florida, released word on February 19 about a horrific and potentially deadly car crash that was intentionally caused by an irresponsible driver. A 20-year-old woman from Baker, Florida, was arrested and charged after purposefully driving into oncoming traffic with the intention of causing an accident.
The OCSO Sheriff’s Office said that Anessia Jines, 20, “intentionally drove westbound in the eastbound lanes on Highway 98 near Hurlburt Field.”
Multiple witnesses told the Sheriff’s Office that Jines was traveling at a high rate of speed in her Nissan Sentra and was deliberately swerving to try to collide with oncoming traffic. Jines was ultimately successful and drove into an oncoming car at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 18.
The car she crashed into was being operated by a 71-year old woman who wa driving a Toyota. The Sheriff’s Office reported that the victim,”suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries.” The car wreck caused by Jines closed both eastbound lanes of Highway 98 for nearly an hour, according to Holt Enterprise News.
An off-duty OCSO deputy at the scene tried to detain Jines as she attempted to walk away. He says when Jines asked “Why are you touching me?”, he replied “because you could have killed someone.”

The deputy also said that the wrong-way driver refused to walk to the patrol car when instructed to do so. Officials on the scene described Jines as being “combative.”
Following her arrest, Anessia Jines was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer. She managed to survive the car crash unharmed.
The Sheriff’s Office concluded their report by indicating that a mugshot of Jines was not available. They also wanted to express their gratitude, “to all the callers who alerted the OCSO to the dangerous situation and those who stopped to assist in the investigation.”
ABC News-3 reported that Jines was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail without bond.
