Fort Meyers man sentenced in 2022 shooting murder outside of the Cavo Lounge
Earlier today, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced that a Florida judge sentenced Alexander Evans to 35 years in prison for his role in a fatal shooting outside of a Naples nightclub back in 2022.
Evans, 34, of Fort Myers, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a person 65 or older. He was found guilty and received a 35-year prison sentence of which he must serve a minimum mandatory 25 years.
“This was a lengthy and intricate investigation conducted by multiple bureaus within the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from outside agencies and the community,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “I want to thank everyone who worked diligently to gather the necessary evidence to bring this individual into custody and hold him accountable for his actions. He is now going to prison for a long time.”
The shooting happened outside Cavo Lounge at Mercato on October 8, 2022. There was a disturbance between two groups of people inside Cavo which turned violent. Security personnel intervened and attempted to escort both groups off the property.
The altercation continued in the parking lot where Evans pulled out a gun and shot the victim. Evans fled on foot. The victim died at the scene. Evans left his credit card on a table inside the club which led to his identification.
The CCSO investigation revealed that after fleeing the scene, Evans got on a flight to Europe. Detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest. Days later Evans took another flight back to Florida. CCSO detectives were waiting for him and arrested him as he deplaned from a commercial flight in Fort Lauderdale.
As part of his sentence, Evans was ordered to pay $9,866 for the cost of the investigation to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office and pay court costs and the cost of prosecution.
