Update: Hit-and-Run driver that killed Fort Pierce 10-year-old girl turns herself in
(Updated 10/02/2021) On October 1, the Fort Pierce Police Department announced the arrest of 22-year-old Arianna Aleja Colon from Okeechobee for the fatal Hit-N-Run traffic crash that claimed the life of 10-year-old Yaceny Rodriguez-Gonzalez in the early morning hours of September 23 when she was struck while walking to her school bus.
Colon turned herself in to the St. Lucie County Jail on October 1 at approximately 3:00 p.m.
Colon is looking at charges of Vehicular Homicide and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving the Death of a Human. The hit and run driver is being held on a bond in the amount of $210,000.

Fort Pierce: Arrest made in hit and run that killed 10-year old girl walking to her school bus
A ten-year-old Florida girl going to school in the early morning hours of September 23 was struck and killed by a hit and run driver. At 6:35 a.m. on Thursday morning, Fort Pierce Police Officers responded to Oleander Avenue & Skylark Drive in reference to a hit and run traffic crash. Upon arrival, officers found ten-year-old Yaceny Berenice Rodriguez-Gonzalez lying in a grassy area, unconscious.
Officers learned that Rodriguez-Gonzalez was walking across the intersection to get on her school bus, which had its stop stick and flashing lights on.
The sun rose yesterday just after 7 a.m. The driver was traveling northbound, struck the child, and fled the scene before the sun came up. Yaceny Rodriguez-Gonzalez was transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Major Carlos Rodriguez with the Fort Pierce Police Department said the driver involved will face charges of hit-and-run with serious bodily injury causing death. ~ WPTV
An all-out search by multiple local law enforcement agencies and thousands of concerned southeast Florida citizens joined in the search for a white four-door sedan with right passenger front-end damage. Several images of the hit and run driver’s car were recorded by the school bus.

At 10:30 a.m. today, the Fort Pierce Police Department reported that by 4 p.m. yesterday, their officers had located the hit and run vehicle and made an arrest in the case. Police arrested a “person of interest” and are actively working with the State’s Attorney’s Office to move the case forward.
The Fort Pierce Police issued a statement expressing their appreciation for the outpouring of cooperation and tips from all concerned.
