Fugitive sought for raping unconscious woman in Colorado, tracked down, arrested in Florida
A fugitive who traveled the U.S. trying to escape justice was arrested in Martin County, Florida, on Thursday night when he left his Jensen Beach vacation rental home to grab a bite to eat. Justin Najdawi, 33, was accused of videotaping himself sexually assaulting an unconscious woman in Colorado earlier this year.
Following that assault, he made his way to Arkansas, through Texas, into Alabama, through Georgia and ultimately into Florida in an attempt to evade a criminal warrant for sexual assault and possession of child pornography. But as his selection of forever home destinations narrowed, so did the distance between his freedom and capture.
Once notified, The Martin County Sheriff’s Warrants Unit worked closely with the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Steet Task Force, FBI Miami/Ft. Pierce Bureau and Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office to track leads that brought them to NE Maguerite Street in Jensen Beach, where Najdawi was renting a home through a vacation rental service. Thursday evening, the fugitive left that home and headed to a nearby food truck to grab dinner; but before he could take his first bite, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit grabbed him.
Najdawi was taken into custody and will soon be returned to Colorado to face the charges he thought would be lost in travel.
